Different Types of Buses: A Comprehensive Guide

A bus is a large wheeled vehicle meant to carry many passengers along with the driver. It is larger than a car or van. But less than the average rail transport. The name is a shortened version of omnibus, which means "for everyone" in Latin. Unlike trains or rapid transit trains. Buses used to be called omnibuses, but people now simply call them "buses".

There are many types of bus around the world.

1. Transit Bus:

A transit bus (also big bus, commuter bus, city bus, town bus, urban bus, stage bus, public bus, public transit bus, or simply bus) is a type of bus used in public transport bus services. Several configurations are used, including low-floor buses, high-floor buses, double-decker buses, articulated buses, and minibuses.

2. Double Deck Bus:

A double-decker bus or double-deck bus is a bus that has two stories or decks. Double-deckers are primarily for commuter transport, but open-top models are used as sight-seeing buses for tourists, and there are coaches too for long-distance travel.

3. Mini Bus:

A minibus is a motor vehicle that can carry 9–30 passengers, plus the driver. Minibuses are often used for short-distance transportation and are a common choice for private and corporate organizations to transport staff and clients.

4. Articulated Bus:

An articulated bus is a public transportation vehicle that has two or more rigid sections connected by a pivoting joint, also known as an articulation. This allows the bus to bend and turn more sharply than a rigid-bodied bus, while still being able to maneuver.

5. Trolley Bus:

It is an electric bus that draws power from dual overhead wires (generally suspended from roadside posts) using spring-loaded trolley poles. Two wires, and two trolley poles, are required to complete the electrical circuit.

6. Electric Bus:

An electric bus is a bus that is propelled using electric motors, as opposed to a conventional internal combustion engine. Electric buses can store the needed electrical energy on board, or be fed mains electricity continuously from an external source such as overhead lines.

7. Coach Bus:

A coach (also known as a coach bus, motorcoach, or parlor coach) is a type of bus built for longer-distance service, in contrast to transit buses that are typically used within a single metropolitan region.

8. Hybrid Bus:

A hybrid bus is a bus that uses a combination of an electric motor and an internal combustion engine to reduce emissions and consume less energy. Hybrid buses can be powered by a variety of fuels, including hydrogen, solar cells, batteries, and ultracapacitors.
